About US
Made Tkauu began in 2020 with a clear intention, to bring the ikats of Odisha into everyday wear. Not as a seasonal trend, but as textiles naturally suited to hot and humid climates: breathable, resilient, and designed for lived reality.
What began as a climate-conscious, craft-rooted initiative centred on ikat gradually opened us to a wider world of handmade textiles and material traditions. It has since grown into a design-led practice grounded in responsibility. These principles shape the way we work.
Below are the core pillars that guide our practice.
Measured Production
We operate in calibrated quantities rather than volume-driven cycles. Production runs are intentionally small, aligned with actual demand and the natural pace of handloom processes. This reduces surplus inventory, limits material wastage, and prevents stress on artisan networks. Measured production allows us to prioritise quality control, consistency, and long-term viability over seasonal excess.
It is growth built on rhythm.
Process-Aware Design
Design does not begin with trend forecasting; it begins with understanding the loom. Every weave structure has technical constraints like tension, count, yarn behaviour, shrinkage, time per meter. We design within these realities instead of overriding them.
By aligning silhouettes, layouts, and motifs with the logic of weaving, we preserve structural integrity while introducing contemporary expression. This ensures that innovation strengthens craft rather than distorting it
Material Awareness
Material is not interchangeable. Fibre choice determines durability, drape, thermal comfort, and lifecycle impact. We work primarily with natural fibres such as cotton and silk, selected for their adaptability and long-term value.
Material awareness means asking:
How will this age?
Can it be repaired, reused, repurposed?
Does it justify the labour invested in it?
Every material decision carries environmental, economic, and cultural implications
Long-Form Collaboration
Craft sustainability depends on continuity, not one-off sourcing. We invest in ongoing relationships with weaving clusters, working through repeated development cycles rather than transactional orders.
Long-form collaboration allows skill transmission, process refinement, shared experimentation and mutual economic stability.
Trust deepens over time, and with it, the capacity to innovate responsibly.
